Strategic Sunday: Planning for Retail Success

Sunday serves as both the start of the upcoming retail week and a day for relaxation. Having worked in merchandising, customer service, inventory, and supplier partnerships for decades, I've discovered that strategy isn't just about having a lot of fancy ideas. It all comes down to consistent execution based on what works.

This week, I’m focusing on:

  • Examining last week's sales and out-of-stock patterns

  • Rearranging displays and secondary placements to accommodate foot traffic and promotions

  • Coordinating with store managers and supplier representatives to ensure execution

  • Quickly and precisely preparing for impending resets or seasonal transitions

  • Monitoring team morale at the store level and establishing clear priorities

Preparation is key, whether you're in the boardroom, on the sales floor, or operating a vehicle. Setting the tone early is the first step in strategic retail. You'll fall behind if you wait until Monday.

Let’s lead with purpose this week.
